While his life may have seemed loose and imperfect in many ways, Toots Shor was a man who lived by a timeless, unwavering code of conduct.  He measured wealth not in dollars but in the richness of relationships spawned from a deep, loyal commitment to a basic set of principles and ideals.  Toots was the longest of long shots and a larger-than-life character who stood out on a crowded stage filled with personalities of gigantic proportion. He danced on the thin ice with the grace of a punch-drunk prizefighter and even though every now and then he fell in and got wet, no one can dispute that Toots enjoyed the moment or ever forget the self-styled panache, wit and wisdom he used to forever defend it.  This musical celebrates Toots' tireless belief in the value of true friendship and the risk-taker hidden deep in all of us.

DISCLAIMER: The musical “TOOTS” is loosely based on the life and times of New York saloonkeeper and restaurateur Bernard “Toots” Shor. This work is not intended to represent a biographical history but borrows from anecdotal stories and events in Toots Shor’s life. The body of the musical is a flashback from 1959 to fictitious events which occur between 1929 and 1941. Out of necessity, actual dates have been changed to compress the action and characters were invented or created from composites of several different people. There may be minor lyric changes between the script and the recorded material due to subsequent revisions.
